O U R  S T O R Y

The idea of Rebel Stables began in 1972 when Daniel Bates was born into a Texas Thoroughbred Family. Charles 'Charlie' Bates was a Texas breeder from the 50's to the 80's. During this time, Charlie introduced his grandson, Daniel Bates, to the thoroughbred industry. Daniel's favorite pastime was shadowing his Grandfather. During the late 1900's, horse racing in Texas was difficult due to the illegality of pari-mutuel gambling. The Bates horses were either raced on Texas 'brush' tracks or sent out of state. Charlie Bates was an avid supporter of bringing pari-mutuel horse racing to Texas; however he passed away in 1991. This was three years prior to the opening of Sam Houston Race Track. It was always Daniel's dream to carry on the Texas Thoroughbred legacy that his grandfather started, and with his wife Shannon's support, the dream has been realized through the creation of Rebel Stables.
